BeepBuddy Window & Door Alarm set-up guide

Thank you for choosing BeepBuddy. Your Window & Door Alarm is designed to provide a simple audible alert when a door, window or other suitable opening is moved.

It features a 130dB alarm, door chime mode, built-in LED light and a USB-C rechargeable battery. No tools or permanent installation are required.

1. Charge Before First Use

Before installing your BeepBuddy Window & Door Alarm, we recommend giving it a full charge.

Connect the supplied USB-C cable to the charging port on the alarm unit and plug the other end into a standard 5V USB power source.

  • Red light: Charging
  • Green light: Fully charged
  • Charging generally takes under 1 hour

The alarm contains a built-in 3.7V 210mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

For safety, only use a suitable standard 5V USB power source.

2. Understanding How the Alarm Works

Your BeepBuddy has two main pieces:

Alarm Unit / Sensor — the larger section containing the alarm, speaker, light, battery and controls.

Magnet — the smaller section positioned beside the alarm unit.

When the door or window is closed, the magnet sits close to the sensor.

When the door or window opens and the two pieces move apart, the sensor detects the separation and activates either the alarm or door chime, depending on the selected mode.

For best operation, keep the gap between the alarm unit and magnet as small as practical when the door or window is closed.

3. Choosing Where to Install It

The alarm can be used on many suitable indoor openings, including:

  • Entry doors
  • Windows
  • Sliding doors
  • Internal doors
  • Garage doors
  • Home offices
  • Shops and offices
  • Hotel or Airbnb rooms while travelling

The larger alarm unit can be attached to either the fixed frame or the moving door/window, with the magnet installed directly opposite it.

Important positioning

The magnet must be positioned on the right-hand side of the alarm unit, as shown in the product instructions.

Before applying the adhesive strips, hold both pieces in position and test that:

  • The alarm and magnet are reasonably level
  • They sit close together when closed
  • They separate clearly when the door or window opens
  • The alarm activates correctly

Testing the position first can save you from having to reposition the adhesive strips later.

4. Installing the Alarm

Your BeepBuddy includes one set of adhesive Velcro-style strips for installation.

Step 1 — Prepare the surface

Clean and dry both mounting surfaces thoroughly. Dust, grease or moisture can reduce the strength of the adhesive.

Step 2 — Apply the strips

Remove the protective plastic backing from the back of both the alarm unit and magnet. Then remove the backing from the supplied adhesive strips and firmly attach the strips to each piece.

Press each section firmly into place for approximately 30 seconds.

For the strongest adhesion, allow the adhesive time to bond before repeatedly removing or repositioning the device.

Step 3 — Check the alignment

Close the door or window and make sure the alarm unit and magnet sit close together.

Move the door or window slowly to confirm the two pieces separate correctly.

5. Removing the Alarm for Charging

The alarm unit itself can be removed for charging without removing the entire mounting system.

Simply slide the alarm unit upwards to release it from its mounting section.

Charge the alarm using the supplied USB-C cable, then slide it back into position when finished.

This makes regular charging easier without needing to remove the adhesive attachment from your door or window.

6. Moving the Alarm to Another Location

The alarm can also be removed using the Velcro-style attachment, allowing you to reposition or use it in another suitable area.

Your BeepBuddy comes with one set of adhesive Velcro-style strips.

If you would like to regularly use the alarm in multiple locations, compatible replacement or additional adhesive hook-and-loop / Velcro-style strips can generally be purchased from:

  • Hardware stores
  • Craft stores
  • Office supply stores
  • Department stores
  • Online retailers

Choose strips suitable for the surface and strong enough to securely support the alarm.

Be aware that some adhesive products may mark, damage or remove paint or finishes when removed. Always check the adhesive manufacturer's instructions before applying it to delicate surfaces.

7. Alarm Mode

Move the side switch to ALARM.

When the door or window opens and the magnet separates from the sensor, the 130dB alarm will sound and the LED will flash.

When the door or window is closed and the magnet returns to the sensor, the alarm will stop.

The alarm is designed to create a very loud audible alert and draw attention to the opening of the door or window.

8. Door Chime Mode

Move the side switch to CHIME.

When the door or window opens, the device will sound a door chime rather than the full 130dB alarm.

If the door or window remains open for approximately 15 seconds or longer, the unit will provide a reminder tone.

Chime mode can be useful for:

  • Front doors
  • Shops
  • Offices
  • Home entrances
  • Areas where you would simply like to know when a door has been opened

9. OFF Mode

Move the switch to OFF when you don't want the alarm or chime to activate.

The LED light can still be used independently while the alarm switch is in the OFF position.

10. Using the LED Light

The built-in LED light operates independently of the Alarm, Chime and Off settings.

Press the light button:

Once: Constant light
Twice: Flashing light
Three times: Light off

11. Low Battery Warning

When the battery is running low, the device will beep three times when the button is pressed or when the sensor is triggered.

If you hear this warning, recharge the alarm before continuing regular use.

Important 130dB Safety Information

Your BeepBuddy Window & Door Alarm produces an extremely loud sound of up to approximately 130dB.

The high-volume alarm is designed to attract attention, but sound at this level can potentially cause temporary or permanent hearing damage, particularly at very close range or with prolonged exposure.

For your safety:

  • Never activate the alarm directly beside your ear or another person's ear.
  • Keep the alarm away from the face when testing.
  • Do not deliberately listen to the alarm at close range.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to the alarm sound.
  • Move away from the device once activated where practical.
  • Take additional care around babies, young children, elderly people and anyone sensitive to loud noises.
  • Keep the device out of reach of children.
  • Do not allow children to use the alarm as a toy.
  • Take care when testing indoors or in confined spaces, where the alarm may sound even louder.
  • Consider notifying anyone nearby before deliberately testing the alarm.
  • The device may startle people or animals nearby.
  • If you experience ringing in the ears, muffled hearing, pain or discomfort following exposure to the alarm, move away from the sound and seek appropriate medical advice if symptoms persist.

For routine testing, only activate the alarm for the shortest time necessary to confirm that it is operating correctly.

Battery & Charging Safety

The alarm contains a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

  • Charge using a standard 5V USB power source only.
  • Do not expose the device or battery to fire or excessive heat.
  • Do not puncture, crush, modify or disassemble the device.
  • Stop using the device if it becomes unusually hot, swollen, damaged or develops an unusual smell.
  • Do not charge the device if it is wet.
  • Keep the charging port clean and dry.
  • Do not leave a damaged lithium-ion device connected to a charger.
  • Dispose of the product and battery in accordance with local electronic and battery recycling requirements.

Indoor Use Only

The BeepBuddy Window & Door Alarm is not waterproof and is designed for indoor use only.

Do not install it where it will be directly exposed to:

  • Rain
  • Water
  • High levels of moisture
  • Outdoor weather
  • Excessive heat
  • Steam or condensation

For garage doors, the alarm should only be installed on a suitable dry, protected internal surface.

Important Safety & Usage Information

BeepBuddy is an audible deterrent and notification device only.

It is not a substitute for a monitored security system, professional security equipment, emergency services, appropriate locks or other physical security measures.

No alarm can guarantee prevention of theft, burglary, unauthorised entry or personal harm.

Installation conditions can vary depending on the door, window, surface and adhesive used. We recommend periodically checking that:

  • The alarm remains firmly attached
  • The magnet remains correctly aligned
  • The alarm activates when the opening is moved
  • The battery has sufficient charge

Testing the alarm periodically will help ensure it is ready when needed.
